LEECH WILKSON UTERINE CANNULA
| Material | Stainless Steel |
| Type | Reusable |
| Color | Silver |
| Usage/Application | Hospital |
| Brand | Sculape India |
The Leech Wilkinson Uterine Cannula is a specialized gynecological instrument primarily used for injecting fluids into the uterine cavity. It is most commonly associated with diagnostic imaging of the female reproductive system.
Primary Uses-
Hysterosalpingography (HSG): It is the standard tool for injecting radiopaque contrast media (dye) into the uterus and fallopian tubes to check for blockages, tubal patency, or uterine anomalies under X-ray.
-
Chromopertubation: During laparoscopy, it is used to inject methylene blue dye to visually confirm if the fallopian tubes are open.
-
Hydrotubation: Used to pass therapeutic fluids or air through the fallopian tubes to treat minor obstructions under pressure.
-
Fixed Spiral Cone: The tip often features a conical, screw-like, or acorn-shaped thread. This design allows the surgeon to "screw" the tip into the cervical canal, creating a tight, self-retaining seal that prevents the backflow of injected fluid.
-
Curved/Rigid Shank: The cannula has a slight curvature and a thin shank to facilitate easy passage through the vaginal canal and into the external cervical os.
-
Luer Lock/Mount: Equipped with a standard connection (Luer-lock) at the proximal end to securely attach a syringe.
-
Movable Stilette: Often includes an internal wire (stilette) to maintain the patency of the tube and assist in clearing any blockages within the instrument.
-
Ergonomic Handle: Usually features a hollow or ring-style handle to provide the surgeon with a stable grip and precise control during manipulation.

| Material | High-grade Surgical Stainless Steel (Reusable/Autoclavable) |
| Overall Length | Typically 26.5 cm to 29 cm (approx. 10.5 to 11.5 inches) |
| Cone Sizes | Available in Small (10mm), Medium (13mm), and Large (16mm) |
| Finish | Satin or Mirror polish to prevent glare and resist corrosion |
-
Reliability: The threaded cone provides one of the most secure seals available for high-pressure fluid injection.
-
Durability: Being made of stainless steel, it is a cost-effective, reusable alternative to disposable plastic catheters.
-
Patient Comfort: Because it is rigid and requires "fixing" into the cervix, it can be more uncomfortable than flexible balloon catheters; therefore, it is often used with local anesthesia or in surgical settings.

M.T.P. CANNULA WITH OPEN TOP ENDED, KHANDWALA MODIFICATION
| Material | Stainless Steel |
| Type | Reusable |
The M.T.P. (Medical Termination of Pregnancy) Cannula with Open Top Ended (Khandwala Modification) is a specialized surgical instrument used in gynecological procedures for uterine evacuation. It is a refinement of the traditional Karman or suction cannula, specifically designed to improve the efficiency and safety of tissue removal.
Key Design Features-
Open Top-Ended Tip: Unlike standard Karman cannulas which typically have a closed, coned tip with lateral eyes (side holes), this modification features an opening at the very distal tip. This allows for direct, front-on suction and tissue engagement.
-
Khandwala Modification: This specific design variation often involves a slightly different curvature or a reinforced distal opening to prevent the collapse of the cannula under high vacuum pressure. It is designed to be "non-clogging" compared to lateral-eye models.
-
Graduated Markings: The shaft is often marked with depth measurements (in centimeters) to help the surgeon monitor the depth of insertion and ensure the cannula remains within the safe limits of the uterine cavity.
-
Universal Mount: The proximal end (the handle side) is designed to fit standard M.T.P. suction apparatus or manual vacuum aspiration (MVA) syringes.
The Khandwala modification is primarily used for the following procedures:
-
Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP): For the elective termination of early-stage pregnancies (typically up to 12 weeks).
-
Management of Incomplete Abortion: To remove remaining products of conception following a spontaneous miscarriage.
-
Endometrial Aspiration: Used to collect tissue samples for biopsy or to treat heavy menstrual bleeding through uterine cleaning.
-
Molar Pregnancy Evacuation: Suctioning out abnormal trophoblastic tissue.
| Feature | Details |
| Material | Usually high-grade Stainless Steel (reusable) or Medical-grade PVC (disposable). |
| Sizes | Commonly available from 4 mm to 12 mm in diameter. |
| Shape | Available in both Straight and Slightly Curved configurations to match uterine anatomy. |
| Sterilization | Reusable metal versions are Autoclavable; plastic versions are usually ETO Sterilized. |
-
Reduced Clogging: The open-ended tip is less likely to become blocked by larger pieces of tissue compared to small lateral eyes.
-
Increased Speed: Provides a more direct vacuum path, allowing for faster evacuation of the uterine contents.
-
Enhanced Safety: The blunt-edged open tip is designed to minimize the risk of uterine perforation while still providing effective scraping/suctioning capability.

UTERINE CURRETTE SINGLE ENDED, SHARP
| Tip Type | Sharp |
| Instrument Design | Single Ended |
A Uterine Curette (Single-Ended, Sharp) is a precision gynecological instrument designed to scrape the endometrial lining of the uterus. Unlike its blunt counterpart, the sharp curette is used when a more aggressive "bite" is required to remove tough tissue, polyps, or retained products of conception for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.
The most common variant of this instrument is the Sims Uterine Curette, though other patterns like the Recamier are also widely used.
## Physical Characteristics-
The Head (Tip): Features an oval or teardrop-shaped fenestrated (open) loop. The inner or outer edge of the loop is sharpened to allow for effective scraping of the uterine wall.
The Shaft:
-
-
Rigid: Provides maximum leverage and stability for firm scraping.
-
Malleable: Can be slightly bent by the surgeon to better follow the natural curvature of the patient's uterus.
The Handle: Typically a hollow, teardrop-shaped handle with vertical grooves or a flat finger-grip. This ergonomic design ensures a non-slip grip and precise tactile feedback.
-
-
Dimensions: Usually ranges from 25 cm to 31 cm (10–12 inches) in total length. The tip width typically varies from 5 mm (#00) up to 14 mm (#6).
-
Material: Forged from surgical-grade stainless steel (e.g., AISI 410 or 420), making it highly resistant to corrosion and suitable for repeated autoclave sterilization.
-
Dilation and Curettage (D&C): Removing tissue from the uterine lining after a miscarriage or to treat heavy bleeding.
Endometrial Biopsy: Obtaining a tissue sample from the uterine wall to test for abnormalities, such as endometrial hyperplasia or cancer.
-
Removal of Pathological Tissue: Effectively scraping away uterine polyps or small fibroids.
- Postpartum Care: Clearing retained placental fragments to prevent hemorrhage or infection.
